Mineral Survey Plat

Below is a copy of the Mineral Survey Plat for the Homeward Bound Lode Mining Claim, Big Cottonwood Mining District, Mineral District #5, Mineral Survey #4, Lot #40, dated July 26, 1872. The original claim was 200 feet wide, and 800 feet long, running East South-East to West North-West and encompassing 3.67 acres of ground.

The Plat shows the discovery marker near the center of the claim on the East slope of Kessler Peak near the Carbonate Claim. At the time of the survey, the Homeward Bound Claim was being worked by 1 tunnel. The tunnel length was not specified, nor are any structures noted.

There was at least one cabin at the workings, as it is shown on the plat done just 4 years later for the Baker Mining Claim. The plat does not mention the size of the cabin as others do, but having visited the site, there are now in the area scant remains of two rock or stone cabins about 8 feet square each.
